Default Which CMS System to use

Hi Everyone,

I have a question that you all might be able to help with. I'm working on a site that I will need a decent content management system.

The site is all article based and the delima is choosing which open source CMS system to use for the project.

The main thing that I want is something that "WORKS" as well as something that I can customize fairly easily with a custom template. I don't want to be stuck with something that I can't customize completely.

I'm looking at Joomla right now.. anyone use this system. have any comments on it?

Thanks in advance!!

John Paul

Joomla is a fine open-source cms.

I however would recommend wordpress, as it has grown far beyond its blogging roots and these days is capable of literally anything. Its also the least bloated and the easiest one to use.

Its even running on webpronews main site.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback.

I have done wordpress before, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something different. I like wordpress and all, but not as a CMS system. I know it's capable of that, but I'm looking for something a bit more robust.

Looks like I'll give Joomla a try. We'll see how easy she is to customize into what i'm looking for. Oh, here's the "COMP" for what I want the design. Not it's a COMP i know it's got flaws

We build both Joomla and Drupal sites. They are not equal.

Joomla is simpler to get up and running but IMHO not as flexible.

For small business sites wanting to manage structured small amounts of content we use Joomla.

For a recent online newspaper project we used Drupal.

Hey everyone, I wanna thank everyone again for all the responses. I'm posting a few replies to people so here we go.

I ended up going with Joomla with this particular project.
Welcome to TheWebDesignBusiness.Net

What do ya think so far?

incrediblehelp - Yes I use WordPress all the time, but I am looking for something different. I love all the WordPress features, but it's definitely geared toward blogging.

slideri812, Thanks for that link. That's really cheap to have access to multiple templates all year long. I'm bookmarking it so I can refer back to it. So far I'm liking Joomla for the project at hand, but it's taking me some getting used to.

rp4000 - Could you send me links of the two projects? I kinda wanna see what the difference in the two cms systems are. Most of my clients would fall into the "Joomla" amount of content, but I need to be prepared for bigger sites if they are needed.

kgun - Thanks for that matrix.. I'll be researching that further as soon as I have time.

Thanks again everyone!

try Drupal. It is simple and easy for web development.

Joomla is good but huge and will find difficulties at the start.

Wordpress is a blog but if you want to create one. Wordpress is the answer.
