Default Image Rendering and Alt Text

I am wondering about image rendering and alt text best practices. I have been experiencing an issue where the image pane that should contain the image if not blocked is expanded when the image is blocked and alt text is used. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to remedy this? Would it be in my best interest to use height and width tags to stop the pane from expanding. I want the pane to stay the same size throughout most ISPs regardless of there being an image or alt text.

Thanks!

Greg

I am not sure if I understood your problem, but in every case you should use width and height for you images.

If you problem is about the IE imagetoolbar and you are hosting on Apache, and you have rights to edit an .htaccess file, add the following lines there:

Quote:
<FilesMatch "\.(html|htm|php)$">
Header set Imagetoolbar "no"
</FilesMatch>

Sorry for the lack of clarity, I'm new to e-mail marketing and am still trying to learn how to explain certain aspects of it.

I guess what I was trying to say was that when an image is blocked in certain ISPs and the alt text is displayed, the text distorts the size of the box that was supposed to contain the image, which in turn changes the layout of the email. I have been doing some research and it seems as though including height and width will stop the image frame from expanding, but it will also not show the alt text that does not fit into the box.

I hope that makes more sense.

thanks

Well it would have been useful had you explained that you were talking about html email rendering.

1) make sure your code includes the height and width dimensions of the image

2) make sure all your css/styles are inline?

3) use short, concise alt text

4) include something like this in the email: 'Having trouble viewing this email? Click here for an online version'
