Developing Icons

Hi,

I need help in developing icons for my application. I heard that using VC++ icon developing tool will solve my problem. But i find that VC++ is a not an easy one to handle. Is there any free tool for creating icons. I want those icons to be both stylish and professional. If there is any freeware available for this, let me know guys.
