Drop shadow around site

I'm new to CSS and I've always wanted to know how to place a drop shadow around the edges of my web sites (I usually work in fixed widths).
Can someone please explain this to me, as if you are talking to a rock?

Looks like this tutorial for CSS background drop shadows on a fixed width site should get you going:
