Question What's with the 0

There's a site that I'm working on that's loaded on a linex server. When viewing files via ftp all "returns" show as a square 0. When I download a file to work on those 0's show as line returns which is great. Problem is that when I reload page back up some php/js functions of the page are no longer working. So I can download a file, do nothing to it but load it back up and page no longer works because those 0's were changed to line returns. So what's with the 0's? Can I reformat a page back to the 0's??? How's that done?

Any ideas?
Thanks
Drummin

Could it be that you are transferring the files in binary instead of text?

Hi Sands,

It's actually my my html editor (acehtml) that is changing the page because I opened the page with notepad and 0's are still there. So the problem is I need to make some changes to a rather complicated page and viewing with 0's and all the lines running together in notepad makes it even harder. At this point it seems like notepad is my only option.

Well I worked out the changes I needed to make using notepad.
Still would like to know about the 0 if anyone knows any info or why they're there.
My editor interprets the 0 as a line return. I tried to copy the 0 a do a search and replace of line returns but that didn't work.
Anyone run into this situation before?
I know the site was worked on by a programmer from India. Maybe it's part of the formatting their editor was using.
In any case, I got the mod done.

In my experience this problem occurs when text file types (.html, .php, .js, .css) are transferred as binary and not text (ascii). It looks to me as if your editor is showing the contents the right way. There should only be line breaks. So using this editor if you can still see the 0's as line breaks you save the file separately and upload it as text using your FTP program and check to see if the code works.
