Default Dreamweaver crashes... anyone encountered this?

I wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of a fix to a problem that has just cropped up on my laptop.

Whilst editing html code within dreamweaver, I pressed ctrl + f to do a find function.
A dialogue box popped up telling me that:
...the following javascript errors occurred: "exception throw in native function"
I am offered one option of “OK” and when clicking on it dreamweaver immediately crashes and closes down.

A complete uninstall and reinstall leaves me with the same problem.
Has anyone here encountered this problem, and if so, I would very much appreciate some guidance please?

Thanks
Mark

I would suggest making sure that you have the latest graphics card drivers installed on your box.

Annoying, isn't it!

I've enjoyed those errors in the past but there's an easy fix.

"Dreamweaver caches some of the most used JavaScript code and data and stores it in its cache files. The entire cache system is coordinated by a single file (***filecache***.dat) which acts as an index of the cache files. Sometimes, the cache index file gets corrupted, which results in random JavaScript errors."

I've never even attempted to fix it, but same thing happens to me quite often. I'm typically working in so many programs that I just figured Dreamweaver was competing for the same resource as other programs.

Good Luck,

which version of dreamweaver is this? I was on MX 2004 and it was crashing about 5 times day and one of our support guys was scouring the web for a patch or update for it but all he could find is that there is no fix and the only way to get round it is to upgrade.

Sorry - i realise that is not much help to you trying to fix it - i have upgraded to CS3 and have not had it crash on me yet (touch wood!)

Thank you all for the information, I feel less like I am out there on my own when reading your replies, they are very much appreciated.

I got an attack of the butterflies as I searched for and found the cache.dat because I had been sweating over it for hours. It would not recreate the .dat file though.

However, when my administrator went in and opened up dreamweaver from his profile, he did not encounter the problem, so I am in the process of removing my ID from the machine altogether and starting from scratch (a nightmare).

The version I use is MX 2004 I am not sure about an upgrade, if it costs more than a postage stamp my boss will have a fit :-) but if the problem persists after flattening my system, something will have to be done.

Again guys, thank you for showing your support.

Best regards,
Mark
