I know there are many software packages to protect your images...
but the ones that protect a site completly are very expensive... what are some inexpensive or free ways that you have been protecting your content? persaonlly I have used two methods 1. I have used, and I own but am not currently using htmlprotector 2. currently on any pages I wish to protect I am using a no-right-click java script, to disuade novice users from taking content... this does not stop anyone with a 6 year olds computer suave from taking images... looking forward to posts... |

There's a free obfuscating HTML encoder over at http://www.ioncube.com/html_encoder.php. Their online demo is currently broken but it's easy enough to use. However like many it relies on the browser supporting JavaScript to decode the page thus excluding the content from search engines and people with JavaScript disabled. This would also cause the page to fail WAI-A.
Personally about all I have ever done is to watermark images, other than that if I don't want the content copied I don't put it on the net. |

You can't protect your images.
If it shows up on my monitor, I can take a screen shot and capture it. speed is correct: "if I don't want the content copied I don't put it on the net."

well the theft I'm talking about is that they take them image and use it in a number of ways... the digimarc system only tells them they are stealing while they do it...
for example... I have ahouse plan on my website... it sells for $2000.00 instead of purchasing it from me... you take the floor plan images to a local drafting person or builder and the draw it up and you build it... I get cut out of the loop... the wya they do this is save the file, or print it... or screen shot it... digimarc would help if someone was trying to use my images on another website... or trying to duplicate my website |

You can watermark the images. And check if they are published in their original form on the web. More than that is physically impossible.
About checking if you content is published elsewhere on the web, you can do that with copyscape.

View source (toolbar) and wget http://www.aboveallhouseplans.com/Co...ALL_Color2.gif
Or in IE6 File, Save As, then navigate to the folder you just saved in, select the image and print. Or in Firefox disable JavaScript, view the page, right click on the image and save. Or just a screen grab. There is no protection on that image at all. |

agreed... speed... all holes in the software of htmlprotector
they have some more options that make you go further... they include chopping the file into little pieces... screen capture is disabled in IE for me on that page... |

I use Firefox and Opera. Can it be disabled too?

MWSnap or Snagit will screen grab it nicely and the 1st is free.
Therefor there is no point in encrypting the page as it has done no real good, but it's potentially hampered accessibility. |

The image url is not even encrypted in the source. This has to be the most unprotected protected image ever.
1. View source. 2. Copy and paste image URL in browser 3. Right click on image > save as http://www.aboveallhouseplans.com/Co...ALL_Color2.gif
