Default Playing Video on Website

I have designed a site for a client using FP 2003. The client supplied me with a huge .wmv file (51 meg). I have no experience with playing videos. I did save the file on the server and then created a link to it for viewing. It takes a very long time for the file to load. Is there a way to have it stream or start playing immediately and continue buffering as it plays? Unless I have a solution, the client wants to remove the "Play Video" link. The link is on www.salonatradingco.com/filters.html. I would appreciate any help or advice on this subject.

You need to have it stream as opposed to being downloaded.... it can also be converted to flash...

AussieWebmaster has it right. The best way to do it is to convert the file into Flash. Flash seems to stream video the best, without actually using additional server-side software.

You can even get a 30-day trial by going to www.adobe.com.

I could use help with this too, but I'm going to need more than "stream it" or "convert it to Flash".

I have Flash MX 2004, and I can't find where it will open a .wmv file. Similarly, I'd love to "stream it" but can someone be more specific as to how to do that? Or where to find a reference as to how it's done?

I have a .wmv file pointed to by a playlist and I call it on the page using <a href="video/NZ-1.asx>Play Video</a>, but it takes forever to start playing and I don't think it's streaming (at least it doesn't appear to be.) So any additional help would be most appreciated -
Thanks,
carol

I got going quick with this tute:
http://www.communitymx.com/content/a....cfm?cid=12EBE

your movie will be turned into a FLV file, then export will create the HTML page, upload the FLV, HTML and the two SWF files, (they are the actual player).

Flash will create the HTML page that I have popping up via the link, thats a separate thing I did.

Thanks, some good stuff there. My file is .wmv and it looks like they want it to be .asf so I'm trying to encode it now using the Media Encoder as described (we'll see how much quality I lose...) I appreciate your site reference.

hmm thats not quite the one I was thinking about, there was one that walked through opening flash, importing the movie, etc, etc.

let me see, I might be thinking of some video tutorials I have from Lynda.com.

my video, was already compress, mpg.

mov avi mpg mpeg asf wmv flv are the main ones you need.

file > import > import video

.

Aha, that's something I hadn't thought of. I didn't know I could import a non-Flash movie into Flash. Let me try that too!! Thanks so much!

open flash

file > import > import video (pick your file) - wmv is ok)

click next >

choose progressive download from server

next

choose a flash 8 preset, start with med ?? if you want

click next, or (* choose advanced settings to resixe video, and video/audio quality)

next

choose a player of your choice from dropdown

finish, it will want to save (so save this project - fla)

It will start to encode the video.

Then File > publish

(this creates the FLV, HTML, and the 2 player SWFs)
upload all 4 same folder to work online. FLA is the project and not needed online.

Then you can re-save the project Flash FLA, file if you want to size down the canvas to the player, change the background, etc.

republish if you change.

should be it.

* advance setting powerful to change audio/video quality, you might be able to shave
off a good bit of file size by decreasing those settings.

Wow, this is going to be very helpful! My first attempt converting to Flash gave me large "pixelated" images (cool squares, but a little difficult to see what was actually happening). OR maybe I need to adjust the canvas size. So I'm going to try your step-by-step method (probably tomorrow...)

Thank you - you have been so helpful, I really appreciate your patience.

Aaaaarghhh!

I had this problem the other month. It took me about a week of messing around to get it to work.

I bought this http://www.smart-soft.net/video-converter/ and converted my quicktime file to .wmv

Then I found some code to run the video, can't remember where from but see here...

http://www.salonstore.co.uk/purex_na...ion_video.html

I also put a quicktime version on their too for mac bods.

http://www.salonstore.co.uk/purex_na...on_videoQ.html

Hope this helps you out.

While we're on the topic of video, what about video editing software? Any recommendations?

Thanks.

awesome stuff on the flash / video thing... Flash is the only way I've been able to do it myself, also, simple and good results, same basic principal for putting MP3's on a site too or any audio files for that matter. (did a site for a band back a while ago)

If someone wants to stream video without flash.... You require server side software installed, either realmedia server or something along those lines, it can get fairly costly, looked into it once, but soon as I told the client the initial costs (there was silence on the other end of the phone while he regained consciousness lol) we scrapped that idea.

Adobe® Premiere® is a pretty top of the line product for video editing, however there are a TON of cheaper editors out there that can usually do the job. But I've heard only great things about Premiere®.

I haven't found any that I love yet, just don't have the time to really work with them, it's mostly I have to do 'this' and when I find something that does it I'm done.

Hi Guys,

If you looking for an easy way to put video on your web site consider:

http://www.blue-pacific.com/products...eo/default.htm

The best value for money video editing software I've discovered is Movie Edit Pro from Magix:

http://site.magix.net/english-us/home/

I personally don't think you will find any other Video Editing SW out there that will give you this funtionality for the price $59.99. This is a semi-pro SW that is selling for the price of an Entry Level video editing SW. Also it has the best audio editing features too. Remember Magix makes pro-audio SW too.

This is the only Video Editing SW I use.

Regards
David Tislini

Wow, what an evangelist! ;) I'm actually one guy from MAGIX, so I'm glad to hear that you've positively experienced our Movie Edit Pro software.
For those who would like to give it a shot: try the free demo just listed on download.com yesterday: http://www.download.com/MAGIX-Movie-...9.html?tag=pub

All the best from the MAGIX headquarter,
Piet
