Default Transparency in Animated GIF's or Flash

I am trying to make a simple little promo animation that will float over the header graphic of my site. However, I am having a tough time with transparency and with white around the edges of the images and text.

Any suggestions?

Rob

what programm you use?
If it's Photoshop - when you do "save for web" choose "gif" and check checkbox "transparent"
If it's FireWorks - - choose "animated gif" and from select box "Alpha Transparency"

If it's what I think you're talking about, and you're saving gifs with transparency from Photoshop, then the problem is likely the Matte colour in the "Save for Web" dialog. This is the colour used to antialias the edges of the image, and you need to change it to a colour that's close to the average of your header colours so that the edges blend with their background.

I don't have a sophistcated graphics program, which might be why I've never been able to do what you're trying to do.

Instead, I make a cutout of my header where the text will go and put the words right on this background.
Then just match this over header graphic.

I have been using Photoshop, ImageReady thus far. The problem with the matte is that I can't change that option from imageready as I am trying to make it an animated GIF. Is there a way to set this in ImageReady?

Or is there a way to set a transparent back ground in Flash?

The header image cutout might be an option.

Thanks for the help.

hiya

i had problems with transparency from photoshop into flash too - gifs don't work too well in flash, your best bet is to save it as a transparent png file, then transport it into flash, and on properties make sure you select the 'lossless png/jpg' option.

why do you want to import a gif into flash? you can probably make a much slicker animation in flash itself - infact you can probably create the gifs in flash using their drawing tools?
