Default ALT Text possible with rollover?

I built my site in GoLive 5 and I use rollovers for navigation. The ALT text window is not available...is there a way to achieve the effect and include the tags?

Thanks,
Derald

Default ALT text rollovers

Hi there,

I use DreamweaverMX but add these details by hand by editing the code directly. Dive into the HTML and before the IMG width tag add:

ALT="you alt text"
TITLE="you rollover text"

this title tag creates a pop-up when rolled over. Alternatively you can also use Tool Tips but I don't bother as TITLE is so easy.

Remember to add ALT tags to all you images, even if you don't have any text as this will work better in text only browsers. Such as ALT="" (no space between speech marks)

regards

Does using both the alt and title attributes confuse people with screen readers?

I know some people who use both whenever possible in order to get the tooltip effect. (They'll set both attributes to the same value.)

For example, how would a screen reader say:
<p title="Home"></p>

Thanks

Hi there:

I am new to the forums here, I too use a screen reader, and just to answer your question, when you use the alt and title tags together, screen readers usually only read the title tag. but if the title tag isnt used, then it will read the alt tag.

you also might want to look into using the accesskey="" attribute.

Also, just to make a note to you, many browsers do not display images, if you dont use the alt tag, it will make it a little difficult to navigate the particular website (even for the sighted.)
