Default Jasc Paint Shop Pro Vs Corel Paint Shop Pro X

Hello all,

I've just tried to find out about upgrading my version of Paint Shop Pro to a newer edition, only to find out the company seems to have been taken over by Corel.

Has anyone used Paint Shop Pro X by Corel or one of the older Jasc Paint Shop Pro's - does anyone have a comparison maybe? I haven't used the trial version yet of version X, but have always been really happy using the Jasc version up until now, and I remember being unhappy using Corel software in the past.

Can anyone give any information or let me know their preferences re these two versions?

Thanks,
Darren.

Default Corel

Darren,

I have been a Corel user since CorelDraw first entered the scene. However, for my purposes and because I learned it first, Photoshop has always been my image editor/bitmap program of choice. For vector graphics, CorelDraw is hard to beat. It has a lot of functionality that many other vector applications lack.

At the end of the day, assuming a given program has all the functionality you need, it all depends on what you're used to and whether or not you're willing to go through the learning curve of another application.

I don't know how long ago you last experienced Corel's applications but I find them generally very reliable and very robust. It's certainly worth trying the trial version. Good Luck!

I've use PaintShop Pro for a while - ungrading each
time 7, 8, 9, and now 10 (under Corel).

9 and 10 are a little different than prior versions
as far as how they look to the user. I'm pleased
with the features.

Hi Scott - thanks for the info - I don't do much in the way of vector graphics, and Photoshop's always been a bit pricey for the quantity of work I actually produce. So that narrows it down by two! I'll try to minimise the learning curve I think!

Thanks,
Darren.
