Default "E-mail this page to a friend" functionality

I've noticed a ton of websites have the "e-mail this page to a friend" text at the bottom of many of their pages...

I was wondering if anyone uses this feature and if they find it effective. And also how difficult it is to implement such a system? Is it something you can just add to the footer of your pages, or is it more complicated than that. If so, how much would such a system cost?

Thanks!

Default Don't know how much its used..

We have it on our site, but I don't have any statistics about how often its used. However I know that I personally use those links on other sites, so it only stands to reason some people do use them.

For the second part of your question, that functionality is included with the shopping cart software we used for our site (ecommercetemplates).

scot184 html tags in your signature no longer work. Press edit profile on top of this page and change it to bb code. Instructions are on there if you need help.

Thanks, I'll make the changes...hadn't posted in some time. Does anyone know how complicated the system is to set-up, and the possible fees associated with it if you plan to outsource.

Thanks!

We implement "Tell-a-friend" on our e-commerce sites..

We also added a function to copy us on all emails sent.

With this, we know what products people are interested in (and telling others about), as well as what they are saying in the comments box.

We use a php script.
Pretty straightforward, with a bunch of anti-spoofing added, such as the referring page must be from the same domain.

Having a tell a friend script is never a bad idea.
Anytime you can get a visitor to refer another visitor, is a bonus.

I have php script i use, if you want it, pm me and i'll send it to you...

It is not so difficult to develop if you have some knowledge of server side scripting, even you can keep the form part in different sites or pages and run the script at a perticular ( common ) place.

You can donwload the code in PHP with tutorial from the site in my signature.

try one of these:
http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/...lafriend.shtml
http://www.morpheusweb.it/html_eng/s...nala_amico.asp
http://www.siteexperts.com/tips/backend/ts17/page1.asp

I've never used these, but i may try it now, seems like a good idea. If you try one, post which one you liked and how it went.
