Default transparent values for cells

Hi,

I have been searching and searching for how to achieve the effect of a partially transparent table cell that has a background that shows through.

I have seen this effect on a few sites, but have been unable to find out how to acheive it.

Anyone know?

Thanks in advance...

WebWeaver Sandy

Learn something new everyday :o))

I would think that there might be other ways than this, but none come to mind, maybe a microsoft filter of some kind (a CSS style , I know they have gradiency filters).

Hmmm...:)

Default Thanks MikMik!

Thank you MikMik! I appreciate that link, I guess I was missing the "Semi-transparent" as being the main point I needed to reference in my searches.

Much appreciated!

There is only 1 real way to do a semi-transparent graphics and that is with the png format. The only problem is that some browsers do not display these properly. Your alternative is to make multiple graphics that have the transparent effect already in them.

Do you have an example of a site that is using transparencies?

Great link!

I haven't tried it because of the IE reason also.

Default Found another solution

Well thank you all for the wonderful ideas and links and everything on this thread. I did try a few but didn't quite get what I was aiming for. However there are still a couple tricks you pointed out that I haven't yet tried.

What I have tried, and it worked so far for what I need is just doing it in Flash. I was trying to make semi-transparent menu buttons, so the background would show through some. But I wanted the navigation element to be free and not a part of the background.

If I create it in flash, I can set the alpha for however transparent I want it, and create the menu that way and then make sure the <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> is in the html. I did a little test with just a blue rectangle fading in and out from 50% transparent to 0% and my background was showing through just the way I wanted, so I thought I would share that with you. This way too with Flash I can add a little more spice to the menu.

Thanks again and hopefully some of this will help others looking for similar effects!
