Default adobe illustrator problem

Please can someone help me before I throw my computer through a window?!.....

I am trying to draw a line in illustrator that curves around a page (its like a holding device for some text in an advert I am making for print).

The problem is if I draw the line using the document borders, only half the width prints, so I am trying to draw the line about a millimetre inside the page, but it keeps snapping to the edge, and so do the guides - I have all of the 'snap-to' options unticked so why is it doing this? It is driving me up the wall!!

Also when you adjust a point is there a way to keep a straight line straight as I was trying to lengthen a section of the line but it keeps going wonky by a few degrees!

you can use x and y coordinates to set the position of your line and transform to set the size of your object, and for straight lines keep shift pressed, then it will only use 45 degrees or 180 etc. angle.

You could make your document bigger in document setup. You can always switch it back. I agree with cashcannon you can use transform pallet to check the size of the shape, adjust if needed.

If a line is slightly off and you need to move one anchor point slightly, change your general preferences /keyboard increment to .001" . Then if you click on one node with the white arrow you can use the keyboard arrow keys to nudge it up or down a couple clicks.

If you want more help with Illustrator, or about any other program, go to the Help menu on the top of the screen/ Illustrator Help. It brings up a webpage looking screen, go to search, type in any tool, pallet, question or subject and it will bring up tips and directions. It gives good advice to a beginner or the most experienced designer.
