Default Adding clickable sound files

Could someone please explain the proper way to add clickable sound files to a site?
NOT background sounds.
I have a group of testimonials on wave files that I want to play with a text links or graphic buttons.
I don’t want the page to load up a console or redirects to another page, just play the audio files.
I also want it to work in all browsers.
Could you enlighten me?

Default simple a href

A clickable 'text link' (located in the body of the Web Page) would look as follows:

Hi Roland,

I believe the code you presented opens a new window to play the file.

I want the page to not move or redirect, just play the audio.
Thanks,
Robert

OK, the simple link didn’t bring up a new page but it did bring up a console.
What I’m looking to do is something like to way it works at this site.

I have testimonials that I want to play without redirects, consoles or pop-ups or reloading the page.
Any takers?
