Default Re-designing the default "Index of /" page when no

Hello Forum Members,
Does anyone know if it's possible to re-design the default "Index of/directoryname" page that resutls when there is no index.html file in a directory?

Thanks for your comments, and Happy New Year!

Diana

You could 301 redirect to another page.

What are you wanting the viewer to see or do if you don't want to put up a page named index.html.

This is not "default" behaviour - it is dependent on your virtual server configuration and can - if the server config allows that - be changed via a .htaccess file.

See
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_autoindex.html
and
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod...directoryindex
for possible configurations.

For security reasons, the server should NOT show directory contents by default. You may want to check this with your hosting company.

Thank you for your responses. I'll check out the .htaccess possibility.

I have a script which allows the visitor to login via a username and password to a specific directory and upload videos to that directory for clients to view.

To keep things simple, I would rather change the appearance of the server's default "Index of/" page than have the visitor upload to a directory, then have to click another link at the index page to access the upload directory.

Thank you both,
Diana

I'd still probably put up a index.html page that explains who you are, instructions, etc, then press a button to login and upload the videos. They could also login via FTP and drop them that way.

I don't know how to configue the server the way you are describing, maybe your hosting company can help.
