Default CSS and Layer Implementation- Help!

Hello
I am just discovering CSS. I understand the way it can modify fonts and font positioning...
I am using Dreamweaver MX 2004 and also I have the Dreamweaver 8 tutorial. I know how to add layers... which are basically div tags I think?
Is it possible to add layers to an external CSS sheet? Or are layers specific to a single page?
I want to have an external CSS page with all of my font information and if possible layers that I want to have on every page.
I am a beginner to this... sorry if I sould like a dolt.
Thank you very much for any help.

Placement of your layers (div's)are specific to a specific page. External style sheets are used for style, positioning other visual characteristics... If I understand your situation, you can try specific style id's for each individual div - to control each separately.

All learning starts with the phrase "I don't know".

Philosophy aside, yes, everything you're talking about is possible. You can define div positioning in a CSS file. In fact, you can define any CSS attributes in a CSS file.

If you want to see some examples of how external style sheets work with div positioning, I can give you a few:

www.kastlefireplace.com
www.tscst.org

Those should give you some starter ideas.

Thank you very much for your help.
I am starting to understand this.
I have done a number of the Dreamweaver CSS tutorials.
Do you know of any other good CSS guides I should look into for help?
Thanks again...
