Default Line drawing on paper to vector graphics?

I have a pencil drawing someone did for me on paper. I would like to get it into a vector graphics program to use in my logo. I am a graphics newbie. I understand(and have at my disposal) beginner Illustrator and Photoshop operations. Obviously I have a scanner. Any help?
Thank you,
RedWood

How detailed of a drawng is it?

If it is not too detailed, I usually do the standard scan, place in Illustrator, and draw over the top.

I'm afraid so. I used to work for a designer that never touched a computer and sketched everything. It was my job to scan and redraw everything. Not fun, but the only way I know of to make it vector art, and have it look good.

Adobe Streamline should do the the job, Not sure of it's availability anymore though.

I am not much more than a 'newbie' meself, but when you scan the drawings, can you save them as .bmp, .jpg, or .gif?
I use fireworksmx, and it has a "Trace" command that converts the raster images into vector. The resolution is still 'grainy', it traces the pixel squares exactly, but if your programs can do this it might be an option.
I've recently tried to convert bitmaps(raster) images that way, though, and the quality is not smooth by any means.
Just a suggestion to see if it helps.

Default Problem solved!

Thank you redcircle. I found someone with Streamline who helped me convert it. The program worked just as you said.

mikmik, I unfortunately didn't get a chance to try your idea, but thank you for your input.
