Default Sitemap Advice needed

Hello everyone

I need advice ref creating a sitemap. I know what they're for, but half the online tutorials/newsletters in my possession all preach on and then tell you they can only describe a sitemap (as opposed to give you any useful information).

My question is: How do you go about planning/detailing a site map? The site in mind has about 12 pages, which mainly consist of the various training courses on offer.

Do you give a description? If so, what do your descriptions entail and how long should they be? Do you use a software, and more importantly, do you have an example of one of your sitemaps so I can have a look (please)?

Any help will be GRATEFULLY appreciated.

Many thanks and best regards

I created this simple map for pages I created within a larger site created by a colleague of mine:
http://www.uwex.edu/ics/design/map.htm

It is nothing fancy. The issue of using descriptions (and how long) would depend on how you see people using it. As you can see by mine, I mainly intended mine to be a reference for people needing to use access keys, wanting the URLs of the individual pages, and to provide a view of the heirarchy of the pages in my little area of this site.

I hope this is useful to you.
