Default rollover images not validating

I have made an email flyer, and a couple of the images are rollovers that use javascript. (I know this isn't ideal in so many ways, but the fact is its the way that the directors want it done)anyway, I know a mailshot probably isn't the most important thing to validate, but it is throwing up an error that confuses me and its always good to learn these things for future reference:

When I try to validate the online version ,I get the following error:

Error Line 63 column 360: there is no attribute "NAME".
...net/citrix/slices/slice_2a.gif" name="Image2" width="50" height="13" border="
You have used the attribute named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not support that attribute for this element. etc etc

so if I remove the name tag from my rollover, and then try to validate, it picks up the next 'name' tag and says that doesn't validate.

Why don't these validate? the rollovers don't work without them! And why does w3c only pick up the errors one at a time and not all four 'name' tags together?

thanks for the help!

Not being able to look at the source makes it a bit difficult, for me at least, because I can't compare it to something else or see the full picture so to speak.

Hopefully speed or some other code guru will see your thread and have an immediate answer; but just in case ... here's my guess, and attempt to help for now ...

Should "name" be "img name"?

You can look at this page that I use js driven rollover images on and compare - maybe that will help
http://www.freshdames.com/babepics.htm - the top frame uses rollover.

cheers - will have a peek at your code. Can't put a live link up to see whol code as the mailshot isn't ready to go and we're having a whole heap of issues with it! Sorry!

What document type are you using?

Try using :

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

I tried replicating your code and it validated. There's nothing wrong with your code, it's your doctype.

Thank you very much ,MuNKy - that has sorted it!

My document type was 4.0 instead of 4.01 which I guess must have been the problem :-)

Now I can go home and watch Lost tonight worry free!

Glad it worked out pagetta ... kudos to MuNKy for another great save!

By the way, my wife was addicted to "Lost" from the first episode, but it was opposite "Smallville" last year so I didn't watch it often except during reruns ... I watched the repeats over the summer, now I can't wait for the new season too!
