Ideas for logo and navigation for website?

I am having a tough time coming up with a banner and some navigation, so I though I would ask you guys. I am terrible at Photoshop and a link to tutorials of any kind would be very helpful, also.

How would I create a banner and nav to spice up the site?

I'm also thinking that some ads in the content part may help with spicing the site up + some moolah.
