Hi Everyone, I don't post much as generally there are much better minds than mine but I had to share with all my fellow designers a new program I have tried and found to be terrific.
Anyone that has struggled like I have with the vector drawing tools (paths) in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Freehand will want to try this program. Anyone who has not had the time to tackle vector art will want to give this a try, it is so easy to use you will be amazed. SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is said to be the future of graphics for the web, specifically because it can be sized in a browser zoom tools and not loose it's quality. It won't replace the use of jpg for photographic images but for logo's, buttons, icons and even animations, this tool will help you make your all your site design elements accessible to all. It's open source and free and runs on most OS's including Windows and Mac. Anyone who has tried open source s/w may have bee frustrated by the lack to tools and ease of use but this program in the two days I have been playing with it has won my heart. Here's the website: http://www.inkscape.org/ and don't miss visiting the Open Source Clip Art Library: http://www.openclipart.org/ that has thousands of SVG resources available for download which you can ungroup and edit to your hearts desire. If you can, donate to the project, even if it's $5 and you can upload your own art to the Library for others to use. I have been using Linux and open source products for years now and am very excited about the huge strides that have been made just in the last year and it will only get better. I don't profess to be a graphics expert by any means but I have used and loved Photoshop and Illustrator for years but adding more tools to our "tool box" and increasing our efficiency as designers can only be a good thing. Hope you all give it a try. Cheers!
