I'd say there's no 'best way' - just individual style and expression. :)

I'm going to take this question and interpret it slightly differently.
I'm going to answer the question "what is the best way for me (jkomp) to design MY portfolio?" That's the answer you ultimately want anyway, right? Basically, your problem is that you've got too much stuff for one page. What you need to do is break it down into sections (e.g. web design, Flash intros, games, etc.) If you get enough pieces, you may even want to break it down by industry (I found that helped me quite a bit.) That way, you've got more room to describe each piece in your portfolio, as opposed to just a single paragraph. Also, space out the customer comment and maybe make the phrase "Customer Comment" bold. That way, it stands out more. Cool games, by the way! I like the bowling pin spaceship in the Defender game.

This gets so tricky. We soul search every time we re-do our site. You can group things by industry or by service or by technology. You can show thumbnails and be intriguing or be explicit with text. Each page can have a lot of description or leave more room to appreciate the image.
A great question with no one solution. It is a real test of the ol web design skills. With your toughtest client.

Hi Jcomp,
As far as the online portfolio goes... I have met with a man that created a multi-million dollar graphic design group in San Diego, CA. He started it himself and was considered one of the best in the business. It was an accident, but I took advantage of the opportunity by asking a lot of questions about creating a portfolio. I will share the secrets he gave to me that day: • Display 1 image per page on a black or white back ground • Do not have anything else on or around the page that could distract the customer away from the image you are trying to display. • Have a discription for the image. • Disply only your best work. It is usually the common practice for artists to display everything they have created. No. Only the designs you have received the most compliments and you are the most proud of. Look at other design sites that are successful and see what the did ( www.thelogofactory.com ). Online is kind of different from print. I used flash for mine and it got me a job at www.gameshark.com. That was a while ago so things might have changed since I entered the Airforce. That's all I know so I hope it helps! Good Luck!
