Default Issues with IE for Mac

Good afternoon,

I have redesigned our website in CSS and posted the first section. It performs as expected in all browsers on PC and Mac, except IE5.x for Mac. It simply will not load. It does load and perform as expected in IE4.5(?)for MacOS9.

Any leads on what the problem could be? My CSS is valid according to Dreamweaver and W3C as well as the HTML. I do need to make the page render in IE5.x for Mac.

The url is http://www.canton.edu

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
lioness

Default Issues with IE for Mac

Hi Lioness,

I would not lose any sleep over it. Most people are on IE 6 or Firefox or another Mozilla version.

The probable cause is that IE 3 - 5 only support CSS1 wheareas you have probably coded in CSS 2. Css3 is now with us and will be the defacto for all new browsers.

To check your css for CSS1 go to W3C CSS validator otherwise live with it as you are not upsetting a lot of people. I know it sounds a bit arrogant but we all need to move with the times.

I checked your site in IE6 and Firefox and there is a difference. Validate your code and most of it will disappear. Then blame the programmers for there DCOM model.

just my thoughts.

Hi Keimos,

I believe that all of my CSS is CSS1 at least that's what it validates for at w3c.

Was the only difference you saw between IE6 and Firefox the size? I have validated the code and it shows no errors, so I'm not sure where to go next, or how to fix it.

Thanks for the help

Default IE and Firefox

Hi Lioness,

No there is nothing to be done. IE allocates a different line height by default. For inst in IE a blank line will be 12pt and in Firefox 10pt.

There is a way to enforce it but that is beyond me at the moment without looking into it further.

The difference between the two is not a lot so live with it as it does not detract from the look of your site

Keith

I just tried to visit your site on a Mac with IE 5.2 today. It locked up the program and I had to force quit. I checked our stats IE 5.x accounts for 8% of our traffic. Depending on your site, you could have the homepage a doorway that has a choice to choose a CSS or html site. I know some sites with flash do this.
