Default FTP How do you intergrate it on your site?

My website is www.thedigitalhorse.com. What I do is sell memberships to my site and allow users to access copyrighted material that I have illustrated with digital animations (FLASH FILES)

My questions is I sell my memberships for $50.00 I think I need to start selling the information (tests) on an individal basis. I am thinking how I can do this is to set up and FTP service where people can pay $15.00 per division and download the information. In a zipped file format.

How do you do this? Does anyone have any experience with this and suggestions on how I might move forward?

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly apperciated.

Regards

Robin

ftp? not sure if this is the best way to go about it.
Do I have this right? You want to charge $15/ product, per visitor?
You'd probably have to look at integrating some sort of ecommerce/shopping cart solution with password protection.
I'm sure you would want to have some sort of time limit, so that the purchaser doesn't have unlimited access to download the product

can you provide more details?

Default Sorry I was not clear here is more info

Okay

What I would like to do is let people download an zipped executable file. After they have paid for it.

I would like the person to pay for the software then they can go and download it as a zipped file and get a recipt for their purchase. So basically I Have about 16 executable programs zipped. The user selects the program they want to use and pay for it then they have access to the Ftp site and download their selection.

Currently the site I run www.TheDigitalHorse.com is $50.00 for a year and users have unlimited accss for a year. But I think that the price is to high for some people who don't need that much info. So if I could break the product down into smaller segments then sell them as executable stand alone programs.

Hummm I hope I am explaining this better.

Thanks for your help

I think cyanide is right in suggesting you approach your issue from the angle of a shopping cart rather than an FTP server. You can try and find (or write) a server side script that issues a user name and password which gives the paying customer access to another part of the site where they can download what they want. Then (if I'm understanding what you want to do) their username and password would expire after a set ammount of time.

I know this is pretty general, mostly because I only have a general idea about how to approach a problem like this. I imagine an almost subscription-type of setup.

I did a search at www.hotscripts.com for "subscriptions". You can see the results here. Just a quick scan over the results gives me the impression that there are several good looking prospects there.

Good luck.

flood6 makes a good point.

You could do a search for a ready-made script.
I know there are scripts called download managers
Which may be a better approach.

Basically most of them will automate the process for you. The user pays, then gets automatically sent to the download page or the download (save as) message pop ups automatically after payment is made.
