Default XP experience

yesterday I had another computer installed. the office here is empty the computer came with XP installed. . They told me It was easy to use and that I should get out of the dark ages. . So I got XP (my own computer uses Windows 95. I like it.)

But PEEVED and PEEVED OFF with the Flaming thing already. it is "Asleep"

I have turned it on/off - pressed every key, pressed most combination of keys, and I am unable to wake it up!

I never was, never will be 'Intuative' when it comes to computers. . But I think there should be something written on the screen of a new computer that says "ON" (and means it) I never asked the flaming thing to go to sleep! It has work to do. . Nobody due to arrive in this office untill 6pm this evening - Its 9.30 am..

Yep, I know I have missed something that even a ten year old can see. . But I can do more damage than a child - when I am Peeved.

watching keenly for the first response.

Default Well Well

Well Whoopy do, I always thought that screens displayed images - it never occured to me that they produced images. If I had turned my new screen on and it had stayed blank, It would have been my next step to turn on the computer. . . But when I get a display saying "sleep mode" that bounces its way off the screen, I just thought the message came from the computer.

Whats wrong with a blank screen. It tells me something. Why tell me 'sleep mode' when it could say 'turn the computer on Idiot. .

still peeved. whats the point of placing a message on the screen that has the user searching to find out what 'sleep mode' is. . when it would have been totally obvious without the message. This is just Idiots wasting time adding pointless features just for the hell of it.

I never had a computer that would wake up from sleep mode. Try pressing the power button. If you still cant wake the computer by pressing power you will have to restart. Either hold the power key for a few seconds until the computer shuts off or press reset.

To disable sleep mode right click on your desktop and click properties. Select the screensaver tab and click advanced or power options (not sure what it's called, we have that tab disabled at the office). From there you can set how your computer behaves after different lengths of inactivity.
