GoLive vs. Dreamweaver

I am about to try to change webeditor, from GoLive to Dreamweaver. Ihave tried to make the move 2 times before, but always ebded up with GoLive again. Not because it is better, but becasue I can do my stuff there without too much delay. I do tell newcomers that perhaps they should start with Dreamweaver as I did notice some neat features I can not find in GoLive.

Please comfort me, am I doing the right thing?

I assume Dreamweaver imports GoLive created files without problem? I have only little dynamic features. Deffinitly I will not uninstall GoLive....

I think the tool you use is a personal thing, I use GoLive I've tried Dreamweaver but for the way I work I much prefer GoLive.

I agree with speed that it's a personal preference, as it is with all software (PageMaker vs. Quark, Illustrator vs. Freehand). I've tried GoLive myself but I went back to Dreamweaver - not alot of time in a day to learn new software anyway, which I'm sure is the same for everyone.

Maybe all you need is an upgrade. Are you using GoLive CS?

Give Dreamweaver a chance, download and take the 30 day trial, just a few learning hours lost if you don't get on with it, might be a big gain if you do!!

My website desinging experience is quite limited but I get along.

I started out with Dreamweaver and have no reason to change, it has always seemed very user friendly, every so often I need a kick in the right direction but you need that with all programs.

Personal preference again!

I am sticking with GoLive. Now that they have a German version as well it is a great improvement. I am still getting used to the CS though. The old version was very different.

I have been using Golive since 5 extensively and when CS came out it was an extreme disappointment. This won't be noticed as much on small websites but on larger graphics and code intensive sites Golive can literally grind to a halt due to its memory consumption. And the web development computer is on a dual Xeon workstation.

Golive in my opinion has a lot of strengths but CS does little to build on that. I have had .site files corrupt and I have experienced numerous lock-ups just to name a few problems.

The CSS side is not designed efficiently at all and does not facilitate, to my expectations, speed of development.

I have been actively researching Dreamweaver as an alternative and will more than likely switch in the next few months.

Actually that has been my main reason for changing software, CS is crashing and shut down often. I noticed Dreamweaver, among other things, had a way of checking bad links on your server, instead of workstation, and correct them as well.

I had that problem, but after the last updated from Adobe that seems to be a thing of the past.

I myself find Dreamweaver to be one of the better programs out there.

When Dreamweaver was owned by MacroMedia, I always heard that DreamWever was the best IDE (it is a lot more than a Editor). Today Adobe owns both.

I have never used GoLive, and Dreamweaver is good enough for me. It has a lot more advanced features than I need in 2008.

Dreamweaver is an excellent program. But alas, I still do most of my programming by hand.
