W3C Validation

I am trying to find out what the best HTML version to validate with is. When I validate using a older version (3.2) I get a list of errors as long as the phone book.

When I validate with 4.01 Transitional I only get 9 errors. I haven't validated with XHTML yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which I should validate with regarding search engine compatibility?

Any help would be appreciated, we're trying to go live with our new site next Monday.

You should validate with the versio it was written in. HTML 4.01 transistional is the most common. Search engines don't care what language your page is written in.
