Default Magically Disappearing HTML and Images

Hi,

I have recently encountered a strange phenomenon where whenever I add an image to a web page and then upload that page all signs of the <IMG> tag have disappeared. Thus leaving a blank space with no sign of the image. I am using the same application as I have for a few years now (Dreamweaver) and I have never seen anything like it before. This is true for PNG, GIF and JPEG images. I am using Fireworks to export GIF and JPEG files.

Also, even more wierd, is that when I upload a image created/exported in Fireworks there is no sign of the original image when I use my browser to go to the image itself (eg. my-site-domain/my_image.gif). All that appears is a white 32x32 pixels block image, eventhough the original has over 100 colours and is 100x100. Though this does not happen with PNG images.

I have not used any extra code when it comes to the <IMG> tag, and reducing to bare minimum doesn't make any difference.

Has any body else encountered this problem, since it really is a problem when you can't use images on a web site!

I am thinking that this is a problem on my computer, but I'm interested to see if anyone else has the same problem.

Thanks in advance,

Do you have a sample (url) to post?
So we can check out the HTML?

Thanks, Roland

If you go to iDTEC (http://www.idtec.net) you will see at the bottom of the left hand column below "SITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION" that there is no image. But there should be a Tucows logo.

The image is located here: (http://www.idtec.net/images/banner_a...logo_150_t.gif)

This is the image's HTML taken from when the page is on my computer and from when I view the page directly off the server through FTP:

<a href="http://www.tucows.com/">

</a>

This is the image's HTML taken from when the page is viewed through both my browsers (MSIE 6 & Mozilla Firefox 0.8):

<a href="http://www.tucows.com/">
</a>

As you can see the entire <img> tag has disappeared just by viewing the page through my browser.

Also if you go to the image directly (http://www.idtec.net/images/banner_ads/tulogo_150_t.gif) you should see that there is a white 32 x 32 image instead of the Tucows logo image.

I have not changed the way I make up my pages so I can't see anything wrong there, but if you spot anything please tell me.

Yesterday I did my yearly format and re-install of MS Windows on my computer so everything is freshly installed, but this made no difference to my problem.

I am not sure about if these problems occur on MACs or any other browsers, but if these problems do or do not occur with you please tell me as I am thinking this is a problem closer to home.

This is a different web page than the one I refered to in my previous post, but exactly the same problem.

Thanks,

Actually, I DO see the Tucows logo.
With IE 6 and Mozilla 1.4

Very strange, this is something that I will have to look deeper into. Possibly something wrong with Windows XP, there may be an update which I have not downloaded that fixes the problem.

Are you running Norton Internet Security or Firewall?

If you are then see if you have Ad Blocking turned on, if you do then that is your problem.

Norton will block image urls with the words "banner" or "ads" etc in them. It also blocks various image sizes.

Other firewalls may do the same.

When one of these images is blocked the HTML is removed just as you describe.
