I don't see any problems with templates as long as the people doing the templates does them correctly.

Default Clones

Use a template if tou don't want to get noticed and want to be like a thousand other sites.

The most successful businesses on the internet have their own unique identity and branding.

If a template fits your needs exactly, it is likely you will get lost in the shuffle of clones.

Default Templates are fine

I think using a template is sometimes the smart thing to do. It can give you a headstart and by studying the design/code you can learn how good sites are put together.

If you're looking for a totally unique look then obviously the template is not for you. However, for most small businesses and individuals, a template with some unique content does just fine.

I would shy away from using a template if at all possible. If you just like the design of one template or another, then create something similar, or hire a web designer just to create the layout for you.

There are many designers that are quite reasonable and might be able to create something you'll love for about the cost of buying a "Unique" template
