PhotoShop - Resource for training or tutorial
I am looking for a resource for online PhotoShop classes or tutorials for advanced techniques. I live in a very remote area so classes are not an option; extensive travel would be required.
I've looked into a few online options but I could not determine (with registering and paying) if it was presented in a user-friendly format. If anyone has participated in an advanced online tutorial or course that was cost-effective and helpful, I'd appreciate any information you could share.
Thanks!

I don't know exactly what you mean by "advanced", but there are varying levels of instructional tutes that I found very easy to comprehend and were really helpful at 599cd.com.
No, I did not sign up as an affiliate, but if you find something of interest I sure wouldn't mind you telling them I sent you! Ha.

Create an account with Informit; they have great tutorials and they don't push the writers books too hard:^}

Thanks arvana,
We got the CS collection. I think Adobe should give way the software and then make all their money on their "Clasroom in a Book" series.

Photoshop User
If you can afford $99 a year I would strongly recommend joining NAPP, The National Association of Photoshop Professionals. You get a
years subscription to Photoshop User magazine (which is almost the price of the membership right there). I can't begin to tell you how much I've learned from their magazine and their website has a ton of tutorials and downloads. You also get discounts on software (like the upgrade to Photoshop CS) as well as seminars around the country. I actually got $99 off the price of the recent Mac Design Conference in Chicago, so basically that paid for my subscription right there.

Have I got the perfect place for you! I am a member of an online group on Paltalk (a voice chat program that has a free level of membership). Our group is called Developing Webs and it is located in the PC/Hi tech area of Paltalk.
Anyway, our group holds online tutorials for Photoshop, Flash (currently), PHP, etc. We have a wonderful room owner who goes by Ladymindy. She gives her time freely, and she is a great teacher. I personally have taken some of her classes, and even though I had used the program prior to the class, was able to learn a lot from her in class.
If you are not into voice chat (Paltalk is not like the others), I suggest you check out our group web site. This is also owner and maintained by our illustrious leader, but has many contributions from the rest of the group. You can check out our site at www.developingwebs.net . There are many tutorials for many aspects of web design, with a whole section on Photoshop. The tutorials in the Photoshop sections cover various levels of competency. There is no fee for these tutorial, and you don't have to become a member. But if you do join, it's free also. It's a great all around site. Check it out. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised!

I just got a flyer from National Seminars Group with a Photoshop workshop that is touring at several cities in the US. I've never been to one of their seminars, but it looks good.

I definitely agree with joining the NAPP. Beyond that, if there are businesses which employ Photoshop which utilize advanced techniques nearby you might consider seeing if you cannot find a mentor or even an intern position at such a company. Nothing better than someone who will teach you how to do things using real projects and work experience is always a benefit.

It's also the start of the school year. Look into Universities, colleges and community colleges. Some have online classes as well.

Thanks!
Thank you for all of the information, my partner and I now have quite a few links to follow!
I've wondered about NAPP and, with all of the positive feedback here, have decided to subscribe.
Thanks again.

NAPP
Follow up to my original post:
We joined NAPP on Thursday. The tutorials have been very helpful for what I needed, which is mostly a refresher for techniques and to learn new benefits for PhotoShop CS. I get stuck in such a web graphic mode and old habits that I need to brush up on techniques I rarely use - or NEVER use - at my convenience (like 7:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning).
Thanks again for the help!

lynda.com
It sounds like you've found lots of great resources!
But here is another to add to the list.
lynda.com is a great resource for Adobe and Macromedia software tutorials. She sells some great how-to videos which give designers a real jump start on using the software.
