Default Error Pages showing in stats

We have been analysing our stats using webalizer for some reason the error.html page is showing up with more hits than any other page.

We have run all sorts of software and analysis tools to understand whether we have any missing links or missing graphics and everything comes up 100% okay.

We have around 300 pages on our site and having went through every single page and every single link I cannot find the reason for these error pages showing up in the stats.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Look forward to your replies.

Thanks.

Quite frankly, it's probably virus/script kiddy type stuff, long funny URLs designed, usually, to find holes in IIS servers. Not a concern.

To be sure, try this:

cat /path/to/your/error_log | grep 404 | less

and see what kind of requests they actually are
