could some one explain to me what this is and what it should include?

I am correct in thinking that it should be in the root file of the ftp account?

I just borrowed one from a post that allowed it.

I changed some of the files to suit my site.

In the thread cbp mentioned, I saw that Mel mentioned searchengineworld's tutorial. I don't think he/she mentioned the validator found there. You can use it to check your robots.txt.

After posting I found the validator and tested the file.
