Default GMail Trial for bloggers

When I logged into Blogger this morning they asked as "an active blogger user" if I would like to beta gmail. I don't know if by active they mean I was picked as an ex blogger-pro user, because I am sad enough to have 13 blogs, or simply because I bothered to use blogger at all in the last 12 months.

If you have a blogger account you haven't been using it might be worth logging on if you fancy seeing what all the fuss is about.

And just for the record, my take on the privacy issue is:
If the gmail benefits don't outweigh your own personal concerns about privacy, then don't use it. Otherwise, quit whining, no-one is forcing anyone to use it.

Default Gmail

May be a "Pro" trigger. I logged in and did not find anything on Gmail.

Default Gmail alive and kicking

Hi!

Today I logged into my blogger´s weblog account and found the same invitation too. I signed up as they required and now I have my Gmail account working.

giselagiardino[at]gmail.com

Sounds interesting to try it. I don´t mind at all about "privacy issues". If I did it I wouldn´t be posting here, or having my own WEBLOG!...

Good you thought of letting bloggers know about this chance through this topic! ;o)

Kiss, Gisela

I realize this isn't the place for it, but this is an EXTREME over-simplification of the issue...

I was invited.. free blogger account too. There was a box just above the login / pick your blog area on the blogger.com main page. (if you don't see it try http://blogger.com/gmail.pyra .. you may have to be logged into blogger.com.)

Gmail will be quite useful for handling newsletter subscriptions like WebProNews. I don't know how many times I started a project and thought "hey I remember getting a tutorial about this from those great WebProWorld people" and not being able to find it.

What else will it be good for?

I like that idea. That would be a really good place to store a lot of webpages too.

I am wondering something now that you brought up newsletters...basicly the links inside of them. Do you think that they will follow the links inside of Gmail? Can we use the Meta Tag noindex, nofollow?

That is not an idle question. If they are going to read the mail to serve up context sensitive ads, they will obviously be reading the links as well. Will Google throw that into their crawler's queue?

Damn. I would not of noticed it if you had not explained right where it was. Thanx. I now have a Gmail account too.

First impression, looks kewl! That part about "You are currently using 0 MB (0%) of your 1000 MB." is out of this world. Somebody beat me to "dodger at gmail.com" though, so that was not kewl.

They do have a way of reporting spam. But I do no think that will get too much use during beta (maybe). I am hoping that it is a lot better than Yahoo mail, which quite frankly sucks.

How soon before "Save page to gmail account" is part of the Google Toolbar?

Just think of it.. your own personal Internet. It'd be like RSS on steroids.

Though I did notice that gmail doesn't seem to crawl attachments, even text ones. At least not through the search feature... I didn't think to notice if the Ads were related to content in the attachment.

And lol about not seeing the ad for gmail! I thought the original post was a little misleading so I clarified. Glad it worked out for you!

It would be nice to integrate it with blogger.com, now that would be something, eh?

I never log in via that screen any more hardly. I use a desktop application called wbloggar which you can compose and publish from. It has all the options for changing your templates too, plus you can define your own auto-insert code snippets. More user-friendly interface than the blogger.com online version (I hate data entry online).

If you have not tried this yet, you can download it at http://wbloggar.com

But you know, even when I did go looking for that invitation...I still didn't see it. Nothing changes on that page (not even their news) and everything just blends together with those Halloween colors. ;0)

Guess I'll be waiting for a trial. After repeated logins all I get offered is pictures of soon to be drunken bloggers at a blogger party in Austin, Texas.
