Default Index page with excerpts from other pages

Hello one and all,

Pardon me if this is a dumb question but is it possible to get penalized by Google for creating a kind of index page which contains a collection of excerpts (1 or 2 paragraphs) from other pages on your website? Would this be considered repeating content?

Thanks

I don't think it will be treated as spam buy you need to keep in mind that additional content should also be present along with it. Apart from it the keyword density of the page should be kept in mind.

In this case, penalty will not be applied.
Duplicate content filter is turned on only with pages with really very similar content - like only few % of difference (that's my own experience).

Okay thanks for the input.

Fortunately all my index pages already have additional content (although it was put there for another reason). I completely overlooked the issue of keyword density. Good point Daxesh. I'll check that out immediately.

Absolutely not. I have about 10 of these pages! Google likes all pages which are useful to people. I would not worry about KWD, it's much ado about nothing IMO. Just write to describe your pages that you link to. It is also a good idea to use the best keywords as the anchor text. Also, link all pages you link to back to the index itself.

Alright cool! Thanks for the input, Dave! (breathing a sigh of relief)

Absolutely. Good reminder. I consider anchor text like prime real estate. I rarely waste it on stuff like 'Click here' or 'Go'. Once in a while I use 'More...' but that's only when I feel I'm in danger of beating a keyword to death. Being a newbie, I guess I'm a little more cautious...
