Because it's not a phrase being searched.

Before you target a keyphrase/word to rank for, you need to do some keyphrase/word research to find out if folks are actually searching for it.

rizwan, putting it quite simply, "best time management" is less competitive, precisely BECAUSE few people are searching for it.

While keyword phrases and longtail have some real benefit, that is only true if people are using that phrase in their searches. "best time management program in a blue four-color box" might fit your product perfectly, and have NO competition, but since nobody would be searching for it, you'll see no benefit from it.

Well, you could spend an hour every day clicking on your current first page listing... your 'traffic' would go up.

But it's likely your bosses temper would go up too without conversions.

Do a bit of reading and research on selecting keywords and keyphrases. (bolded for a reason) There's also few free keyword tools that can help you out.

best way to do keyword research is doing a PPC campaign

nothing beats live impressions

Most of the keyword tools are outdated or grossly overstate how many visitors there are for a keyword

I use keyword tools to come up with keyword variations...then plug it in in the PPC campaign..and look at the live impressions

You can use the - Google adwords keywords - help page. Search for it on Google and you will find the local version - although you can ask for data in various regions.

If you enter the phrase time management it will give you a list of all the related search keywords in use with local and global monthly search volumes.

"Best time Management" shows up at about 4000 per month on a US basis but if you are UK based it drops to just a few hundred.

Most people are searching for "Time Management" it is about 50 times more prevalent than any other phrase.

This is a good tool to research keyword use and perhaps find a compromise keyword phrase. You can also add columns showing average ppc pricing. It may not be totally accurate but if you are starting out it gives you an idea of how webmasters value keywords.

No good being top of the pile if nobody uses the phrase to search. And as the other say the best way is to run ppc campaigns and you will find out what real people are clicking through on.

webmerlin hit the nail on the head. You optimized for a phrase that is not searched on much. Try a more generic phrase, it will be harder to obtain 1st position but you will see more traffic if you do.
