Long Tail Keywords

i noticed that the biggest traffic to my site are coming long tail keywords, which is not being optimize, my site ranks high on this keyphrase, would it be more beneficial if i optimize this keywords?

It is not uncommon for websites (especially niche sites) to rank well for long tail keywords, rather than the main keywords. The reason is their is far less competition for long tail keywords then the main ones.

If you optimize the site for long tail keywords, then you will definitely get good traffic and higher conversion. The longer the keyword, the better will be the conversion.

Best method to track long tail keywords from Awstats, it let you know by using which keywords visitors are reaching your site more often.

It is easier to rank well for long tail keywords. So it is wise to optimize for these keywords at the beginning.

Well if those long tail keywords gives you targeted traffic, then it would be better for you to improve those long tail keywords.

Recent stats by comscore show that 4+ words phrases are toping the list. Generic less targeted keywords bring useless traffic.

Maybe you got more backlinks from your Long Tail Keywords.
Have you checked where are your traffic comming from?
If it comes from your backlinks or from search engine queries...

Whenever I optimize my keywords or target a particular key phrase. I always make it to the point where i target most of long tail keyword phrases specially if the niche is very competitive... And after a few months of building links, most of them goes well in terms of rankings and conversion...

Usually, long-tail keywords doesn't have high competition and in that way, we can gain decent rankings in SERPs and targeting long tail keywords can bring in more targeted visitors, genuine customers and insure conversion.
