Default Google Trademark Policy

As a reseller of a trademarked product. I want to put the brand term in ad copy. But I cant do it because Google stops me submitting the ad copy. However, I can see other advertisers using this brand in their ad copies. How did they manage to do it? Do I need to contact Google about it to be able to get reviewed on this brand term using in my ad copy for my client?

I know that in US, for resellers, you are allowed to use the trademark term in ad copy. How about in the UK?

I don't know about the UK, but for the US you would have to make a request to Google for an exception - you should be able to do this by clicking a link that will appear under or near the rejected ad. You will probably need to submit proof that you are an official reseller.

I will note, I have only gone through this process once, when Google marked "Philly" (the local colloquialism for Philadelphia) as a trademarked term. In those cases at least, it can take a while, since you have to prove to Google that the term in question is not trademarked. I included trademark searches, and it still took a couple days for the ad to be activated.

Actually in the US you are NOT allowed to use a trademark in adcopy.

You may bid on the trademark terms under Googles TOS.

However infringing on trademark, service marks, and copyright, is still against the law.

One way people get away with it on Google is substituting words for numbers or symbols.

For example Sony becomes S0ny

ikea becomes |kea

A work around though if you dont want the ads looking like crap is to set up your campaign and ads with no trademark terms in use.

Wait till the campaign is running fully and make sure mediabot has visited your site. After two weeks or so you should be pass the human review as well.

At this time you can usually add some trademark terms to the ad copy without issues, however you may end up under Limited Status or they may just pause the ads.

Hope it helps.....

September 9,

Take a look at Google Permissions to get the heads up on use of their trademark etc. I had to go through the same process when I used some images of Google in my book Internet marketing: how to get a website that works for your business. They were prety good about it.

Best of luck

I think you need to read first the procedure before doing it.
