google is indexing 15,000 pages but my sitemap is showing 13,000 pages only.why

My site was with primary keyword coupon codes, having 15,000 of pages

indexing by Google. But when i was generated my site-map i had 13,000 of

pages only.. what about rest of 2,000 pages?

The number of pages Google shows as indexed are a rough estimate - that number can be off by as much as ten percent, or in rare cases even more.

Adding to wige's comments, it's also possible that Google has indexed pages with query strings, or pages which are redirected.

One of the wiki's I administer was showing mixed Google results like the following:

/index.php?title=ArticleName
/wiki/ArticleName

Using the link tag's canonical rel attribute with a script that compared the request URI to the URI scheme I was planning to use was sufficient to address the issue.

Sometimes this could be a temporary issue with the data centers and when you reach the 10th indexing page you would find the number would decrease.
