recently google has changed the PR update rate to be faster we no longer need to wait a couple of months to see the results. Also when you go to Google webmaster tools you see that they are monitoring every aspect of our sites.

Its scary to think that they might change the ranking guidelines and might depend on new things like UVs/day, bounce rate, ... what if all the SEO work become obsolete??!

This is why you don't rely on 1 site, Google in this instance, for the bulk of your traffic.. If Google is 90% of your traffic and they make a change you could lose everything.. If Google is 10% of your traffic they can drop you entirely and you won't really miss them..

Its definitely a good strategy to have more than one site as contingency.
Google will keep evolving and we will have to keep making changes to stay on top!

I have stopped using google services out of the same sort of fear you have. I can see no reason why ask, metacrawler, bing, or yahoo results are not equally as good. I mean wikipedia dominates the charts no matter which search engine you use anyways...

I have been using bing for about two weeks now and I actually like it better. I mean it's only been about 7 years of non-stop use with google. I'm rather sick of google at this point. They are so different from when they started out anyways.

This year alone I have watched google cut the traffic to two completely legitimate websites. When all the referrals are coming from a single search engine that really hurts business. They were not websites which were doing anything wrong. Google actually just broke for a little while. My complaints and concerns went unanswered to boot... 80-90% Traffic loss for a solid week because a single search engine dominates the market for no good reason what-so-ever is a little scary... you are absolutely correct.

That being said... Most websites I watch have begun to receive referrals from bing which are better than both msn and yahoo combined... it's good traffic from bing so far...

Perhaps seo's should focus more on search, rather than just google...

I think everyone is trying to be a perfect search engine, but we are all so unique that it is an impossible task. Some people will always want something different.

I have no idea how to get better rankings in Bing. It is a brand new with lots to learn and from the looks of it, it is a whole new market with new possibilities.

Well I really don't think Google would do such actions without even telling most webmasters if there will be some big and major changes on the way they rank websites. I read one of this kind of topic on the other forum and they are thinking that Google was threatened by Bing. Which I think is not really true.

Yh now Google is became more faster and good with Sites.. always updating indexing etc.. not like before taking long time to update...

yep... Google is becoming much more faster and I have been noticing that it's updating PR and backlinks very frequently. It's good for us to get result of our efforts asap. For e.g we are getting some quality and google will consider those as relevant backlinks so it will help to get high PR and we don't need to wait for couple of months for the same.

like anything, nothing lasts forever, the SEO you did a year ago is different then the SEO today! Remember when directory submissions was the be all end all?

I think that SEO work will always needed to be done. Basically, in SEO, we optimize our sites so that SE bots can easily crawl our sites. If a site have browser compatibility issues, errors in coding, inaccurate titles and descriptions, then I guess that site cannot rank good in SERPs.

Other factors like Bounce Rate etc may come into consideration but SEO work will always be needed to be done.

That is simply not true. Se Bots can crawl, index and rank most pages with invalid markup like badly nested and unclosed tags. Don't misunderstand. That is no argument for not making valid markup.

Google has always been coming up with newer techniques and standards for measuring the page rank and site traffic. The challenge for SEO is how quickly we adapt to these changes and help get our sites on top.

yah, they regularly update there algo even PR. My blog got PR N/A from PR 2.

Google is king, but there not the be all and end all. i get good traffic from ask, yahoo, AOL, and a few more.

Ive seen google index my blog posts in 6 hours or less. They have become much faster than yahoo or msn search engines i feel.

So what are your main source of having traffic at your site, because it really very very scary, that i am having 95% of web traffic from google... and i haven't found another way to get traffic yet, i mean i do like social media sites, and blogs, but there are not just sending me traffic like google do, So what can we do in this situation ...????
