Default Site title

Hi guys

I have noticed this for a while just wondered if its a problem at all, when i goto google and type the name of my site world of chat

It shows as the first result but It just shows the name of my site as the title in bold - World of Chat, it used to show the whole title any ideas why this would have changed, as ive checked my code and it seems ok ?

Just a guess - I think Google is pulling the title from DMOZ, since that is closer to the search term (100% match) than the actual title (33% match or so).

Google will use the DMOZ (ODP) info for titles and snippets. If a site has a listing there, this meta prevents info from there being used in the SERP's...

Have no idea what you're asking.

All that meta does is tell the SE's not to use the info in the ODP as a title or description snippet.

But Google does appear to be using the title from DMOZ - the description matches the page description meta tag, but the title is identical down to the capitalization to the title in the open directory.

Didn't notice that wige. Thanx

Perhaps the meta or title is new. It was last cached yesterday so if either is new it should take about 3-4days for the change.

One additional note...

Actually, according to the following, they don't say that the ODP title gets blocked. Only the description...

Pretty cool. I haven't really experienced this thing before. Does Google really pull that out from DMOZ and not the actual title on the site itself?

That has been like that from day 1 that we got the sitelink. I'm not hapy that we pay because some editor changes what you submit even though all over the site it is SeoPros and in several places even has a TM(Fake though it may be).... I guess someone took acceoption to Doug H going into their Forum (when they had one) and ranting about editors favoring their buddies or some such nonsense. He's not even a Member.

Actually Terry, it's not all bad when Google uses the ODP title when it's more relevant to the query. After a bit of checking, it appears they give it title ranking weight.

Hi there

Me neither the leader, I knew yahoo directory had it, and had added a tag in hte past to stop it seeing hte title they had used from their directory, but my site has been removed from yahoo directory now (not worth the money and the customer service is rubbish) so I aint renewing it.

After changing this title my site has recovered a lot of his rankings, its hard to say if this actually affected my site though !
