Default PageRank but no rank

My site has an OK pagerank of 5 and once upon a time enjoyed fairly high rankings within Google.

However, lately, the site has completely dropped off the Google listings for all the keywords I require. Google does list my site if you add the company name as a search term. So it shows that at least my site is indexed.

It seems strange that Google could punish my site like this when I enjoy good rankings with Yahoo and MSN.

I would not say that Google are "punishing" you - they just choose to rank your site (and most sites) differently to Yahoo et al.

PageRank is really only a part of the ranking formula.

As you are still in Google, it's likely that it sees other pages more relavent than yours. You will need to optimize for your keywords and phrases.

It seems like you have been relying on one page for most/all your traffic? If so, this is you biggest problem.

I rely on the index page of each product to gain SE ranking, i.e:

http://www.mrlinsurance.co.uk/wedding/index.html
http://www.mrlinsurance.co.uk/pet/index.html
http://www.mrlinsurance.co.uk/travel/index.html

Each of these pages have separate keywords, descriptions etc. According to the meta tag analyser, my meta tags are well formed.

However, I just seem to be ignored by Google for the search phrases I require. This has been since the Florida "Google Dance"

Welcome to the irrelevent results month:)

I have tried all week to get my index pages to rank and there is no answer, Nor has anyine any clue what is wrong with Google. My best guess right now is that they are purposely listing bad results to get people to click on Adwords

Default The rankings get worse!

Hi guys, I have had similar problems. As an example my best search term until 2 weeks ago was "ebooks and audio books" although I had many other common terms for my bookstore in good rank positions. Last week that ranking dropped off the face of the earth for no good reason.

I hadn't changed anything in the keywords or contents tags. I had made minor graphical changes to the index page but that should make little or no difference.

My theory.... Since Yahoo went their own way Google only wants to play if you pay.

My listing on Yahoo is still good, for yahoo.com that term puts me at number 45 on page 3 and on yahoo.co.uk I am number one - funny but those rankings are where I was when google and Yahoo were one and the same!

What do you think???? "Pay to Play"??? I do.

Not true.

Google and Yahoo just rank there sites differently.

Several times Google employees have mentioned the words "signals of quality" - your links page is sending a poorer "signal of quality" to Google - you may want to make some changes.

Default Different SE, different yardsticks!

My site was listed in the top one among 1900 sites for years. The relevant Key word, "srivaishnavam" which is a leading community sect in Hinduism. From 1/10 now I am pushed to 3/10. Though I am happy to be on the first page, I am afraid that I might be booted out if I don't make any efforts to get Top one slot, only becasue as of now, Google search engine is widely used for searches, comparitively & more. I have not changed my tags, from the day of my publishing my site!!

Surprisingly, in new avatar of that Yahoo places me on the top One, for the same key word; but here the total number of site listing is some what lesser than Google. MSN, Rediff and many other SEs places me on the top.

For neumorous key words combinations, related & unrelated ones, I am standing tall with Google SE results. Why, I get 1/10 among 6,10,000 plus sites with Google SE results! But I find nowhere in Yahoo!- for the same coin of word!

I agree, the SE terms are not the same with all SE. Each one having a set of different methods. It is not the Pizza hut sort here, still trying to find where I stand.

Namasthe Everyone,
TRS Iyengar
