Default Page Rank Question - sub page with links?

My page ranking is currently a 4. I am working to get it higher. I have spent time taking off links on my web site that are under a 5 PR. I am also seeking sites to link to with PR at 6 or over.

Here is my question. Does it matter what the site's main page ranks at OR the sub page they have my link?

In some instances the ranking for the site is a 6 or higher, but the page my link is located is lower. Does this matter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why are you doing that for? It will have no effect on your PR

PR is per page, so its the PR of the page that the link is on that you get a share of.

PageRank is specific to pages, not entire websites, so the only thing that matters is the PR of the page that links to you.

I'm not sure why you're removing pages with less that PR 5. That strikes me as a very bad idea.

Default Paging Ranking

I got the information to remove links on my Links or Resource page from "RLRouse Webmaster Resources". It was featured on Web Pro News.

..."Create a page for your website and name it Resources or something to that effect. If you already have a links page, purge all of the links that lead to a page that has a PR less than 5."

It also goes on to say that sites that link to you with a low PR do not effect you, but who you link to can effect your score.

Also, if I not mistaken I think I have also read that advice in this forum.

Is this not correct? Anyone know for sure?

Just to clarify. I am not removing PAGES with a PR of less than 5, I am removing outgoing links to pages with less than a 5 PR.

Default removing links

Might create a problem when the sites you removed links to, decide to reciprocate. Then you will only get traffic from google or whatever search you are aiming at . . . This sounds like a case of placing all your eggs in one basket, after first putting a hole in the basket.

I do not think you should ever remove a link . . unless the link is of no good purpose to your users.

Unfortunately the content writer is sadly misinformed (or sadly mis-spoken not sure which).

In the great scheme of things PageRank leaving your site tends to be very, very small... unless you have zero links back to other pages of your website... like a navigation menu.

Also a single page "links page or resource page" only get so much PageRank from other pages thus the "One Page" really doesn't have any signifcant effect.

Mis-spoken: if the writer have suggested linking to "expert websites" (also called authority sites) is good for your website - this would be correct. I wouldn't limited this to a singler page though, as the "page theme" also pages a major role in this - returned value to you.

Thus a page about "bikes" to a "bike site" that is considered to be an expert (often but not always non-profit/non-commerical or governement agency) and nearly always "informative"...

would have a more desirable effect than a page about "links" or about "resources".

While some believe this is new Brett Tabke wrote about this in February 2002 with:

Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone

An excellent read - and if you follow it "verbatim" you can achieve 2K visitation per day (admittedly market dependent) in but a few months.

No less than 3 brand new to SEO newbies achieved this status level in 3 - 6 months.
