Default Determining page's content relying on other linking pages

Hi,
Anybody knows if Google relies on page content to determine on which term/s to rank the page in destination link.

For example:
I have a page dealing with flowers (Page A)
In this page I wrote about flowers (title, headings, etc)
page A link only to Page B (the link has no text anchor).
Page B is a flash page (Google can't read the text).

Do you think Google can determine that page B is dealing with flowers, rely only on the source page (Page A)?

Google can index flash.

Might want to spend more time reading Google Webmaster Guidelines.....

If there are enough links pointing to Page B that deal with flower related content , then yes.

If based on one page linking to Page B, then its doubtful.

I think the problem is not the number of the links, but the missing anchor text. So i guess the question is that: we have only inbound links that have the URL as the anchor text; do search engines know what the page is about?

I can only speculate on this, so I'll leave the answers for someone else

Google will not attempt to deduce the content of a page whose contents are not indexed.

That there may be IBLs bearing anchor text to such a page becomes materail only once the content of said page itself is indexed, at which time the relevance of such anchor text is determined based on said page's content.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your answers.

However, I didn't ask about the anchor text.
I assume there is no text anchor.

Do you think google can deduce about the content of linked page (Page B) based only on page A content (and not the text anchor or other factor)?

Apparently Google can read java now.
It's the clickhere example again. The anchor text tells the bots what the page is about. Or so we are led to believe

No, Google will not "guess" and hope they got it reasonably right..

Can you imagine the problem?? I can..

Suppose you buy a dropped domain with thousands of links pointing to it from all sorts of car parts websites.. Should Google continue to 'assume' that the page/site is still about car parts or should the crawl it and make sure?? If they did recrawl and use on page content to determine what a page is then you would start seeing the porn guys coming back in force and putting porn sites up on every dropped domain..

The words on the page linking to yours have some relevance. Also the title of that page applies.

Obviously this is not the only factor taken into consideration when the google bots are trying to determine what a page is about

I guess it's why they call it an algorithm

Maybe; and, maybe not.

It's not a factor at all; Google's not about to make a blind assumption.

To repeat, that there may be IBLs bearing anchor text to such a page becomes materiel only after the content of said page itself is indexed, at which time the relevance of such anchor text is determined based on said page's content.

An algorithm is a rule, not a series of wild ass guesses.

an algorithm is a finite sequence of instructions, an explicit, step-by-step procedure for solving a problem, often used for calculation and data processing.

Hmmm. Wild ass, Deepsand?
