Default Google tips for 2009

I read an article about tips on how to seo a site for google next year 2009. They said that Meta tags and targeted keywords are not that important anymore. Use a well researched keyword that matters most to google. This should be at the title of your article or on the first one hundred words of the story.
Relevance of the content is the main factor for Google to value your post. Always provide fresh and unique contents. Duplicates will only hurt your rankings and increase your chances of being deindexed in the major search engines.

This is kind of difficult to believe as their bots does most of the work. Relevance perhaps with relation to which sites it links to and what sites links to it.

this part actually confuses me, you said that meta tags and targeted keywords would not be important anymore, how and why is it? I mean, with out the tags what would be used to describe the site in the SE's SERP?

Even in the year 2008, we have seen these principles for Google SEO. What's the difference you observe. Day by day, the search engines are becoming clever to remove the duplicate content.

If they didn't see any tags. . . SE will use the content and visible to the SERP.

Put adsense on the site and it will get crawled fast. Google use load balancing and crawls with both the adsense and Googlebot.

Update the sitemaps on your already indexed sites to reflect the new links.

Content for the search engines. Meta tags for the user agents. The search engine being both, sees each in its respective way.

Meta data such as character encoding, human content language, html language, pics labels, links and so on are more for the use of a rendering browser, and should not be considered SE specific, though again, as a user agent, these datum are visible and meaningful.

At no time has it ever been recommended practice to pack SE targeted data here, though of course, everyone has. The 2009 approach is no different, really, than a suitable 2001 approach would have been.

Poignant, concise, descriptive title tags, page specific descriptions, relevant database keys in the keyword list, rich content and a human usable web, these are all that is required. Refine these and you've followed most of the advice given by the experts over the past decade.

Dumb question: How do you update your sitemap in GG WMTools? When I check mine it always says Okay (check mark) and a very recent date within a day or two.

I got an SEO newsletter with a synopsis from a large conference. The speaker (I got a free text version) said that Yahoo! Analytics is vastly superior to GG's stuff. Any opinions, as I don't have that going on yet but my interest is piqued?

Select the site from the dashboard, then Sitemaps from the left nav. Check sitemap.xml and click Resubmit Selected. That's it.

You only need to resubmit if you have made a major revision to your site. G will pick up your sitemap about once a week, so all you need to keep up is the mod dates so G can track the changed pages. You don't have to resubmit for normal maintenance.
