I've noticed several articles today about the new SearchWiki on Google. Basically when you're logged in to your Google account and you search for something, you have new options available to be able reorder, add and remove results on the SERPs.
I'm interested to hear your feedback on how you think this will effect the future of searching. Google already monitors user behavior on the SERPs so how much of an effect do you think this could have ? |

Time will tell if and how it would make any impact. First thing that strikes me is that it enables you to see how "the community collectively edited searches".
I could see a company with many employees affecting results. Then again, will it catch on? Not sure I see the appeal yet. I think it would be some time before the majority of the search user base would actually start using this, instead of seeing it as just another novelty.

Currently it's only for registered users.
Collecting ratings is the first step. This can be used later for rankings based on collective ratings and why not the general search rankings. Official Google Blog: SearchWiki: make search your own |

It sure would be interesting to find out if this plays a part in the future of how organic results are displayed. As it stands now, it seems that the only thing affecting a site's ranking is the linking activity of other webmasters, having little to do with the general public.
Something like this could theoretically put them in the loop.

After reading this and other forums I'm still wondering if it's just a useful tool or if Google's corporate agenda is coming in to play.
What are they trying to achieve by making comments etc. publically viewable ? I'm starting to think that they are going to monitor behaviour on this as well as CTR on the SERPS to ascertain you a score which is then incorporated in to the full Google Algo which gives you your final rank. How much weight will they place on this ? Only time will tell. (I suppose they had to do something new as most SEO's have given up with the Toolbar PageRank |
