Question Google Base

All - Do you have any information on the benefits of loading products into Google Base? Has anyone had any success with organic search results once they have loaded their products? Lastly, what is the most efficient way to load 100,000+ products?

Thanks for your help!

I've been using GBase for a while now. We do get some traffic but haven't been able to notice a huge increase in any type of rankings... whether the software is or is not listed withing Base.

We do get visitors and we track that, but, it's maybe 1-2 percent of the normal traffic, which is mainly the big G these days, and always.

Yeah I think it is definitely worth the effort. I agree with fctoma, you won't see an increase your rankings. However you will broaden your exposure. I see 2-3% of total traffic with 3+% conversion. That is not bad for free traffic. If someone is searching for a product that you offer and Google Products serves it in search results it will be highly relevant which should lead to sales.

I am considering expanding and using singlefeed to help with other shopping engines. Anyone have feedback on singlefeed?

Remember that Google Products also often appear on the top of Google Search results.

I disagree, we seen a huge leap in traffic since using Google base, since most of our products appear at the top of target keyword searches most of the time.

It all depends on your keyword and products.

It's worth it's weight in gold.

I agree, we have had alot of extra traffic and conversions from base.

I need to find a way of getting this google base file converted into a kelkoo, ciao and shopping.com file though as it takes to long to convert manually. Does anyone know of such software??????

Cheers
Andy

Do Kelkoo, ciao and shopping.com charge a fee to submit your products?

There's got to be scripts to convert them, if it's free to list with them, i will either find the software to convert from google base to those formats, or write my own script and make it available to WPW members free of charge.

As a sort of side topic, would I have to change the descriptions of my products from those seen on our website to avoid duplicate content issues or would it 'not matter' as it's Google Base..?

It wouldn't matter, Google Base tends to use the Product Title more than anything, so having target keywords in your title will help a lot.

I'll try and get hold of a script, although if you have a url of the specification of the kelkoo feed, post it up and it may be quicker to write one.

It's not too hard to setup your feed programatically as an XML. I've used PHP to accomplish this though my current setup still requires me manually doing some of the steps to get it uploaded. However you can setup a location where Google can automatically pickup the data via FTP. I will say it seems to be beneficial to upload data daily. Free traffic and $$ from Google is always a good thing.

Got a question on those who've been able to use GBase for a while now:

Does GBase allow "Duplicate Title" in your items or products when you submit them? I understand that "Duplicate URL" isn't allowed at GBase and you need to have unique ID's for the items or products you submit to GBase. But how about "Duplicate Title" in your feeds?

Depending on the API being used, such may yield "Warnings" or "Errors."

You might take a look at gbase "duplicate title" - Google Search
