Page Rank 0 to 3 overnight

I recently discovered that the Google Page Rank of my site's main page has become 3. Only a day earlier, it was 0. At first I thought it was a toolbar error, but I confirmed it through online PR checker services. My site is a personal blog and still in testing phase and I have done nothing for site promotion. I didn't even submit my site to any of the search engines including Google.
This makes me think if Google's Page Rank has any real worth? Is it just a useless number? I know some people make great efforts to get their sites linked from high PR pages, is it worth the effort?

It's a relative thing, usually by the time you see a change in the toolbar you're already aware of changes you have made etc. The debate over whether it has any worth is endless.

That's really interesting! Only two incoming links and a PR of 3. Of course one is PR7 and the other is PR4.

I'm going to have to ponder this one for a while.

Your ranking did not really change overnight. google is constantly calculating and re-evaluating ranking on websites. It's just that they publish changes every few months
By the way congrats on your higher ranking. I wonder, has that converted to more traffic or better search engine position?

I have come to realize that PR changes overnight are really worthless - in either direction. What kind of traffic do you receive?

And how many links does your domain have? If you have a good number of relevant links the PR could be justified.

Be careful; Google do not like user using PR check tools as it uses there bandwidth without real people searching.

OK to use a few times, (one or twice), I think, just not too much.
