Newbie here!
Is it possible for a domain name. purchased at 6pm, for a search term not disclosed until that time at 6pm, to have the domain for that term registered, dns servers set up and be listed on google within 2 hrs? Im not looking for any secrets to be given out, just if it is actually possible? |

When using blog software -- I suggest Wordpress.org's -- it is common to find a post appearing within a few days, and on occasion, you may see a post show up on a hot topic in a few hours. Two hours for a new domain would be stretching things.
I use Godaddy.com thru a reseller Datawebpro.com -- and get the IP up and working in minutes. They have a pool of IP addresses that I work from that are all instantly 'findable' as soon as I install the domain on the server thru cPanel or Web Host Manager. Never takes days to 'promulgate' like it used to do. That's a big big convenience for webmasters. I recommend doing it. Setup a web hosting account with a reseller like Datawebpro.com, which is pretty cheap... usually about $50 /month or less. Then buy your domains thru their own interface, not directly at Godaddy.com. Then your domain is 'live' and reachable as soon as you enter the domain name into your cPanel account. You can install Wordpress in minutes and change a theme, enter content and the whole banana -- instantly. That way you have a chance to get Google coming in only a few hours. Immediately or almost after buying your domain.

Yes, this is totally possible, especially if your site uses any kind of "pinging" functionality (e.g. a WordPress blog).

I have seen new domains get indexed within a few hours, especially if you are using blog software that pings when an update is published.

I would say it is possible, but not guaranteed. Numerous factors beyond your control will impact how quickly you can get your site listed - how soon Google is able to actually crawl the content (depends on how many things have been pinged in), how quickly your DNS entry is able to propogate, and how Google evaluates your content once they access it, among other things.
A new domain should be accessible within an hour in many cases (again, no guarantees, but on average) and once Google is pinged, the content is often indexed within an hour (sometimes as quickly as minutes - but again, no guarantees).

Thanx guys, very interesting reading.
So, is the upshot of this theory mainly that it only applies to the "ping" capability within blogs? and not available in HTML or PHP non blog websites? Last edited by respekt; 08-05-2008 at 05:06 PM. |

It can work with any site, I have new sites fo up all the time - often it will be ranked in the top 10 for a term related tot he site, but then drops down the next day. Google seems to act a little weird when it first indexes a site, takes a little while to generate a SERP position i guess...?

From our experience, other non-pinging sites tend to take longer to show up for keywords.
The site and/or homepage might show up in Google pretty quickly if you Digg/Stumble it, but it's not going to rank for anything for awhile. You'll have to build more incoming links and develop good content before the rankings will start showing up. |

Hi Wesley Do you mean the same "ping" as used on blogs? Welcome to PM me if you would rather. |

If the domain name itself is not a competitive keyword, it could show up near the top just as fast, even if it's just an ad-serving parked page.

Great question. I've tested posts I've made and the fastest I've seen one of my own pages show up in Google is 4 minutes.
Also, it is possible to be talking about two types of SERPs. A page or article might show up at the top of the search results in minutes, but only hold that spot for a day or two. I'm assuming you want long term results where you can maintain top positioning consistently. |

respekt was talking about a new domain, not blog posts. As such many of the comments are irrelevant.
I wonder why it is so important to be listed on google within 2 hrs. To convey an urgent message to netizens?

I have set up a few websites and had visitors from Google within 12-24 hrs.
I had one particular site in Google within a couple of hours. 1. Register domain name (I generally get an email within a couple of minutes confirming that the name is registered) 2. Change DNS settings to my host (can take anywhere from 10 mins - 24 hrs - usually inside of 1hr) 3. Upload site 4. Submit a couple of pages to Digg.com. 5. domain Listed and ranking in Google Usually takes between 2-24 hours for steps 1-5 to be completed. Last edited by SEO; 08-05-2008 at 11:12 PM. |

Yes it can and it DOES!!
In my experience (recently) one of my HubPage got crawled in less than 1 n half hour. The page is about super nintendo entertainment system or SNES I agree that it may possible for with wiki and ugc (user generated content) websites. You will have to experiment buddy. Apart from that, here is official Google statement: Quote:

Sometimes Google is too fast. I did a post once in a blog, in which after I published it I added some pictures to the post. That didn't take more than a couple of minutes. Google indexed it without the pictures.
