Lightbulb Rival by group of former Google engineers

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - A group of former Google engineers on Monday launched a rival Internet search engine, Cuil, saying it is an improved version of the world's most popular Web-scouring tool.

Cuil's founders are taking unabashed aim at their one-time workplace, claiming they out search Google when it comes to depth and breadth on the rapidly expanding Internet.
"The Internet is getting bigger and more disorganized every day," Cuil's founders said in a posting on the website that went live Monday at Cuil.

"We've developed new architecture and algorithms that can handle the exponential growth of the Internet and organize results that reflect its enormous complexity."

Cuil says that unlike Google, which reportedly ignores seldom visited or obscure websites in its index, Cuil doesn't discriminate and has packed 120 billion Internet pages in its index.

Cuil say; The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone elsethree times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.

(I found one google banned site. ed)

Sound like the end of PageRank; Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.

Default Re: Rival by group of former Google engineers

We've been discussing this topic today in this thread --> Ex-Google engineers debut 'Cuil' way to search

It was a bit disappointing with the many problems they've had today.
